Bad Wolf Announces Industry For HBO

NEW DRAMA SET IN THE CUTTHROAT WORLD OF INTERNATIONAL FINANCE
WRITTEN AND EXECUTIVE PRODUCED BY MICKEY DOWN AND KONRAD KAY
LENA DUNHAM EXECUTIVE PRODUCES AND WILL DIRECT
Award-winning British Independent Production Company Bad Wolf today announces a new 8-part drama series for HBO, written and executive produced by new writing talent Konrad Kay and Mickey Down. The series will be shot in Cardiff in the summer of 2019 and draws on the writers’ personal experience to explore the cutthroat world of international finance.
Industry was developed as part of the Cardiff and Los Angeles based company’s ongoing commitment to scouting and nurturing new production talent. As well as featuring emerging writers, the series spearheads a Bad Wolf / HBO initiative to provide opportunities for other behind the scenes roles on indie scale dramas – creating a new wave of production talent for the growing global demand for quality drama.
With her own track record in nurturing new talent, award-winning writer / director Lena Dunham executive produces the project and will direct the opening episode. Lena Dunham is an actor, writer, director, producer, and philanthropist. She starred in and served as executive producer, writer, and director for HBO’s hit series GIRLS, which wrapped after six critically acclaimed seasons in 2017. She has been nominated for eight Emmy Awards and has won two Golden Globes, including Best Actress for her work on Girls.
INDUSTRY is an exhilarating dive into the world of international finance, as seen through the eyes of ambitious twenty-somethings struggling to secure their futures. The series follows a group of young graduates competing for a limited set of permanent positions at a top investment bank in London – but the boundaries between colleague, friend, lover, and enemy soon blur as they immerse themselves in a company culture defined as much by sex, drugs, and ego as it is by deals and dividends. As members of the group rise and fall, they must decide whether life is about more than the bottom line.
This is the first drama series from emerging talent Mickey Down and Konrad Kay who both have first-hand knowledge of the world of international finance.
Bad Wolf founder Jane Tranter said: “Mickey and Konrad’s talent, drive and commitment was obvious to us the moment we met them. The scripts for Industry have an energy and direction that comes from their first-hand experience of the trading floor and their ear for sharp dialogue immediately captured our attention. We’re excited to be making their first TV drama series with HBO – who are never afraid to make bold decisions and support new talent.”
Together they wrote and directed the feature film Gregor which was nominated for the Discovery Award at the British Independent Film Awards and which brought them to the attention of Bad Wolf. Since then the company has been working with them to develop this first series.
Bad Wolf is based in the heart of Cardiff and with backing from Welsh Government has established itself as a world leader in international drama production. From The Night Of to A Discovery Of Witches and the forthcoming adaptation of His Dark Materials for the BBC and HBO the company has set the bar high for international drama production.
This is coupled with a strong track record in developing and training talent which has seen over 4,000 schoolchildren experience TV production as part of their outreach programme – including a specially built schoolroom. In addition Bad Wolf productions have created 124 work shadow placements and 24 fully paid trainees thus far, with many more due to be employed on Industry and the second seasons of A Discovery Of Witches and His Dark Materials.
