This past weekend, Bad Wolf proudly joined the West Glamorgan Youth Theatre Company (WGYTC) in celebrating 50 years of nurturing young theatre makers with an unforgettable gala event.
Partnering with writer and WGYTC alumnus Russell T Davies, we have honoured the legacy of this incredible company that has shaped the lives of countless young performers in West Glamorgan since its inception in 1975 by offering funding to the Company in this, this their 50th year.
“WGYT changed my life. It introduced me to drama and got me writing my first ever scripts – I’ve never stopped since!” said Russell T Davies. “To introduce drama into a young person’s life is to enrich them forever, so I’m delighted that my partners and friends at Bad Wolf are helping the next generation to find their voice.”
The Taliesin Arts Centre in Swansea was filled with excitement and nostalgia from Friday, 28th February to Saturday 1st March as audiences were treated to the West Glamorgan Youth Theatre Company: A 50-Year Legacy Gala. This spectacular showcase featured performances that spanned the rich and varied history of WGYTC, bringing together past and present members to celebrate five decades of outstanding youth theatre. Special guests graced the stage, sharing heartfelt stories of how WGYTC has influenced their careers and lives.
The evening was a true testament to the power of the arts, with breathtaking performances, behind-the-scenes reflections, and an electric atmosphere that left audiences inspired. The reunion of alumni alongside current performers underscored the lasting impact of WGYTC, creating a moving tribute to its legacy.
“As a proud partner, Bad Wolf was thrilled to celebrate WGYTC’s 50th birthday at this special weekend of performance, and to pledge support of their ongoing mission to develop young talent in honour of Russell’s involvement with them over the years,” said Jane Tranter, CEO and Founder of Bad Wolf. “Through our collaboration, we plan to provide guidance from our on-site directors and writers, offer work shadowing opportunities via Screen Alliance Wales (SAW), and explore training initiatives at Wolf Studios Wales.”
This milestone celebration was not just a look back at WGYTC’s incredible history but a promise of an exciting future, ensuring that the next generation of young theatre makers continues to shine.
“50 years is a huge milestone! We are delighted that we start our celebrations with the exciting news of this new partnership with Bad Wolf.” said Artistic Director Viv Buckley. “A partnership that we are sure is going to help ensure we are able to keep moving forward as an organisation committed to providing opportunities for young people to access arts education delivered by industry professionals.”
